Loch Awe used to be a folk band; now they are noisy

The band (Matthew Liam Healy, Joy Everett, Jack McKay Fletcher, Oliver Roditi and Brian Pokora) started playing together in 2010; they wrote and recorded their debut release, ‘Artificial Life from a Digital Sea’, in the two weeks after forming. They are currently working on a follow up, which will probably be released in the latter half of 2012.

Finn Lemarinel not only writes lyrics that tell the most vivid stories, but the imagery he creates takes me back to artists such as Iain Archer who have this phenomenal talent of letting your mind immerse itself in the most colourful of worlds. Ceylan Hay is from Ayrshire in Scotland.
She wanders around the place, singing songs and telling filthy jokes.
She likes Tim Buckley, Nick Drake, Roy Harper, East of Eden, Trees and Fred Neil. She had the absolute pleasure of supporting Martin Carthy in February 2010. She also contributed a backing vocal to “September is the Month of Death” on Trembling Bells’ second album, “Abandoned Love” in 2009. Occasionally, she sings with the Tannahill Ensemble, Viking Moses, Golden Ghost, Jo Foster, Polly Rowley-Sams and George Thomas.
She can be found on Facebook and Myspace for up-to-date songs.

Friday night saw the Threads team back a Stereo for the launch of RM Hubbert’s new album, “Thirteen Lost and Found”.  First up were the excellent and unusual sounds of Tattie Toes, an exotic blend of songs, fiddle, bells, accordion and co-operative percussion.  This was followed by RM Hubbert and his collaborators on “Thirteen Lost and Found”, playing a one-off live version of the album.  More photos over on Flickr.

This was a busy week for Threads, with two gigs in two days.  First up on Thursday 26th Jan at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall was Scottish folk-music supergroup, Session A9, who played an amazing set.
